Art Talk

So! It’s been a little over a week since I launched my website, and I am still VERY happy with it. I think now is a good time for me to pack it in before it gets too crazy… ;)

Now that I’ve got an idea how to run things and it’s up, here’s what I want to talk about;

Identity.

It is something we all struggle with, at one point in our lives- some of us never stop. Someone very dear to me never really settled into himself before he left us, even though who he was was apparent to everyone who knew him, he struggled with not having an iconography or label to put on himself. Being himself simply wasn’t enough.

For me though, it is less about labeling myself and more about trying to figure out what I’ve been trying to say. It’s easy for me now to default to using my ideas for fan art since it takes a lot of work out of the equation, and I enjoy doing it. Though, there are also things I’ve been wanting to make that don’t garner as much perceived attention as fan works of existing popular media. That is not to say I limit myself only to fan works, no, I still make time to work on my original ideas; it just takes longer for them to come to fruition.

I have a story that I am writing, and while I am unsure if I want to make it a novel or a comic, I have already designed my protagonist and the main supporting character, or co-tagonist, these would be Elisa and Fae respectively. You may have seen the painting that I have been working on of Fae (maybe I’ll make that the thumbnail image of this post, you’ll know it when you see it). The problem is reality occurs, where Dread (my husband) and I have life goals we wish to meet. We are in our 30’s and it is only right we want to finally have a home of our own and a place we wish to settle; our main port if you will. We may travel, and go on expeditions to conventions and see friends, or other countries potentially, but we want a real, solid home to come back to, where our kitties have plenty of room to run and climb.

These are decisions I make for myself; I make only the things I WISH to make. My whole life no one has ever been able to force me to draw what I do not want to draw, it has always been a given that I will not make things I don’t have a desire to. There is pressure to make more things people will connect with right away, but that is just the nature of the world. I love drawing boobs, and I love drawing my favourite women. I also love being able to afford things I need, like saving money to move. There is a balance to walk for sure, and I will sway the way the wind blows. Rest assured I will always have personal projects I am working on.

Something I’ve always wondered is- what kind of fan art are people okay seeing? What if I were to combine my artistic vision and messages I want to say, with characters that exist? My themes of worship, body horror, sensuality- would people be cool with that? I’d like to try. If you want, you may let me know your thoughts in an email, subjected “Art Talk 9/16" I’d really love to hear them. I have many weird visions of paintings I’d like to do but always figure people don’t want to see characters like Miku strung up and bleeding in a church, so we’ll see.

That’s about all I have for today. I hope you all have a good night, make sure you take some time to process your own thoughts.
